Easter Eggs are the devil

Hug please... I'm tired and need a few

I am exhausted. Plus Easter Eggs are the devils work.

And back-tracking, I’ll tell you why.

Exhaustion really starts Friday, with one very long day of work. It was full of all sorts of ‘surprise’ things like, well, HIPPA prevents me from discussing it. But, I can confidently say it was a heck of a day.

After work Friday, I went to my in-laws for dinner with our family visiting from NYC, to indulge in a meal cooked by my Uncle?  (That’s what I call my husbands Aunt’s husband, right?)

And then we got home at 9pm. And then we got up at 7am. And then I went running. And then  we went to ‘Bunny in the Park’ in Hunters Creek. And then it got really hot. And then, well, Vince hit a wall. A wall I didn’t know he had hit until WAY after he’d hit it.

Ugh.

Last week we went to a local church Easter Egg hunt which was lovely. Granted, we only had time to stay for the ‘hunt’, but it was most civilized. Children were very behaved. There was no pushing, shoving or any sort of chaos at all. AND there were ponies!

Saturday? A totally different feel. It was a scary kind of chaos. Happily Vince and his littler cousin Chloe were in the 0 to 3 age group, where it was very organized and not scary at all. We waited in line, we got to pick 3 eggs and then we left the area. His big cousin Anna was not in for such a treat. She joined the millions of children that scrapped it out for plastic eggs. And was a wee bit traumatized by the whole thing. As was I. It was horrific.

I think this is the end of our Easter Egg hunts. Next year we are either doing a home hunt or finding a cute local scene.

We went home and had an impromptu nap. Well Vince did. I cleaned. And then we went back over to my in-laws house for some Easter egg colouring. Something Vince was surprisingly not interested in at all. We swam, the girls coloured eggs, Vince was extra rambunctious. We had dinner. V and the girls ran ragged. We left late and I was in bed, like Vince, at about 9 pm.

2 days in a row, which is rather exhausting. Of course I took it out on my husband. Isn’t that what he’s there for?!

Ha!!

I haven’t recovered yet, planning on heading to bed shortly myself… One early night is desperately needed over here.

xoxo a.m. (supratired)

Easter ‘grass’

Last night:

“M? Would you like to help me put some grass in bags?”, I asked super sweetly.

Response? Nothing. Just a look. And it wasn’t much of one at that. The look was followed by a snicker. ‘Grass in baggies’ apparently hit a funny bone. However, he clearly had other things on his card for the evenings entertainment.

I have been feeling the pressure of daycare lately. V has been sent home with so many goodie bags from various parents for various holidays and events that I finally have bit the bullet.

I too will be one of those “Of course! I totally have time to make a cute project for my child’s whole entire class!! mothers.  Except I am not really one of those mothers. At least, I am not yet.

So there I sat on the living-room floor, watching last weeks Lost episode and stuffing Easter grass into baggies shaped like baby chicks. I literally had 3 left to fill when Mr M saunters over from the couch and sits down next to me.

“Want some help?”, he asked, as he reached for a baby chickie bag and some grass.

I watched him as he literally picked up pieces of paper grass and inserted them individually into the baggies. It took him a solid minute to fill the bag. As he finished, he looked up at me with a grin and this look on his face.

This look kind of looked like I was supposed to thank him  repeatedly, for all of the help he had just given me.

Instead:

“What? You want a gold star or something?”

“Ummm…”

“Gee M, thanks for taking 5 minutes to fill one bag. So helpful.”

“You could just say thank you and not be so sarcasstic.”

“”Oh, I could??  Wow. Thanks. You helped SO much.”

“Ok, enough with the sarcasm.”

Men.

Anyways, off I went with V the next morning with all of our cute treats. It was a bit of a clingy morning for the Little Man. He didn’t want to go into the classroom. That’s what happens when I drop him off earlier and his regular teacher isn’t there. He only loves her. Oh, and me. But mostly her. She is cute and blonde and perky, I’d probably love her too if I was 2!

Well what a disappointment it was for me to find out that I was 2 bags short. I guess it would have been a good idea to count the student list before I launched into this cutesy project.

Fail!!

So back they went to the car and one frantic shopping trip to Target later, I finally got things straightened out. Tonight. Delivery for tomorrow.

And all I can think about is that I really hope I counted correctly…

Peeps

I get frustrated with myself when I feel writers block coming on. I mean, I set aside a specific time to write and fully believe I should be able to come up with something terribly clever in that time frame.pink_peeps-blog1

Tonight, however, I am feeling the pressure. And that pressure is the lure of the sofa in the living room with my husband comfortably ensconced on it, all ready to queue up the blue-ray player. Plus the pressure of Monday looming on the horizon. It is not that I dislike Monday’s, per se….. just that this weekend, it arrived rather quickly.

It is now 8:01 pm.

I can hear V’s lullabies through the baby monitor as I sit here in the dark of the bedroom and type this nonsense. It’s very soothing, and I feel my mind drifting. 8:03. That took 2 minutes to write. Shit.

Probably that drift is being helped along by the 3 sugar-rimmed cocktail glasses full of Cosmo’s that my husband made at his parent’s house for me. They were so pink and delicious. Like eating Peeps. Not, actually, that I think they are delicious. But they can be pink, some people think they are delicious and they would have looked adorable mounted on the side of a Cosmo. Anyways, they suited Easter just fine.

Peeps.

Amazing things.

Amazing things that people think up to do with them.

Have you been here? You should. Every day the Internet is a learning experience for me.

8:05. Shit. Shit.

Probably they are also contributing to my mild profanity.

8:07. Sh*t. Times 3.

I have given myself a time limit of 8:15, and have approximately 6 minutes left.

Quick!! Come up with something clever!

Blank. Literally, I am watching the clock change minutes, and then cursing under my breath. Clearly this will be a no picture blog. This post might be worse than last nights?

Bikram yoga tomorrow night. Any bets on what colour spandex my favorite classmate will be wearing? Pale yellow? Light orange?  Light pink? Gosh, I can hardly stand the wait.

Self imposed time limit has expired. I would totally get my pencil taken away from me if this was one of those grade 12 Provincial exams in the gym.

Way past the dead-line now. Too much time spent looking at Peeps website.
